Local Area
The small hamlet of La Viollière is surrounded by gently rolling countryside made up of fields and small woods. It is well placed being Central to La Rochelle, Poitiers and Futuroscope, the famous historical parc of Puy du Fou and the peaceful waterways of the Venise Verte. The lovely beaches of the Vendée coast, Saumur on the Loire are within easy reach for day trips. An ideal area to escape the hustle and bustle but with lots to see and do if you wish.
Activities
For such a rural environement there are a surprising number of activites in the area … Many marked footpaths for walkers. Bird reserves/watching. Local Markets and a couple of local vineyards to visit for tastings. Good local, outdoor swimming pool or lake swimming with beach in the forest. For the more adventurous … try go-karting, treetop adventures, boating, canoeing or paddle boarding on the lake in Mervent Forest.
Historical Sites
There are many nearby places of interest such as the medieval village of Vouvant with lovely views over the ancient ramparts. The Chateau de Terre Neuve in the renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte, ancient capital of the Vendée. Eleanor of Aquitaine’s impressive Abbey and visitor’s center at Nieul sur l'Autize and the ruined Abbey at Maillezais, on the edge of the Venise Verte to name just a few.
